Shot Peening Naval TV Almag Antenna Flanges
- Shot
peening
is a cold working process in which the surface of
the Almag Flange is bombarded with small spherical media called shot.
- Each piece of shot striking the
surface creates a
small indentation or
dimple.
- Overlapping dimples develop an even
layer of metal
in residual
compressive stress.
- Fatigue cracks will not start or
propagate in a
compressively stressed
zone.
- When a residual compressive stress is
produced in
the surface, the
tensile stress created by the applied load must first overcome the
residual compressive stress before the resultant surface stress becomes
tensile.
- Almag is a marine grade aluminum
alloy
that will not corrode and has a high tensile strength and we have many
antennas still in opeation at 20 years. We use Stainless Steel mounting
screws which are protected from galling through electrolysis via
dissimilar
metals with Tef-Gel.
- Works wonders for many years. This a Telflon
suspended jell impervious
to detergents etc.
- ALMAG
Aluminum alloy 535.0 is
an aluminum magnesium alloy that does not require heat treatment to
reach full properties.
- Almag
has excellent corrosion resistance and machining characteristics.
